The village of Palena in the province of Chieti, Abruzzo, has medieval origins, a history rich in tradition
and antiquity, and a particularly beautiful natural context.
The small village is a mountainous reality animated by just under 1,500 inhabitants. Palena has been a
micro-laboratory of national history: saints, hermits, warriors, kings, but also artists, men of letters, and
craftsmen who have given life to the history and culture of this place. Palena lies in the upper Aventine
valley. The area is marked by the mountainous relief of the Majella massif. The predominantly
mountainous territory is almost completely immersed in the Majella National Park. A reserve of oxygen
and serenity; flora and fauna are perfectly intact in this environment.
It can be reached from the Valle del Sangro exit of the A 14 or from Sulmona via the state road 17,
Roccaraso and the Forchetta pass.
Abruzzo has a number of ski resorts where you can spend excellent days of snow and skiing; the
Abruzzo mountains offer good snow cover during the winter months and the cold temperatures allow
many facilities to maintain the snow cover thanks to the support of artificial snowmaking.
Roccaraso, with its century of activity, is the facility that offers the most slopes; Ovindoli and Campo
Felice are very close to Rome and are increasing the services available to alpine skiers. However, smaller
facilities such as Tagliacozzo and Passo Lanciano Majelletta should not be forgotten. Very characteristic
are the facilities on the Gran Sasso massif such as Campo Imperatore and Prato Selva. The Prati di Tivo
